ILIGAN CITY, November 18, 2017 –. Over 230 IDPs not officially listed as beneficiaries in the Duyog Marawi (DM) solidarity mission and gift giving activity held in Brgy Piksan, Calanogas, Lanao del Sur last November 17, were sent extra food packs by DM following an initial dispute over their non-inclusion in the said gift-giving activity.

DM validation of IDPs is anchored on a “beneficiary selection framework” (beneself) where IDPs are prioritized according to gravity of vulnerabilities (single parents/widow, senior citizen, pregnant women, etc..) .  According to Hakim Onsil, Registered Social Worker and chief of mission, they brought 280 gift packs intended for the 229 validated IDPs at Calanogas.   But Aromay M. Sarip, Municipal Social Work Officer, accounts that there were originally 462 of these unlisted IDPs at Calanogas which meant that the 51 extra gift packs would not suffice.

After the conduct of psychosocial activities for children, male youth and female youth, feeding program, and gift giving during the said mission, hundreds of non-validated IDP beneficiaries lined up and insisted on the release of the extra gifts for them.

Upon learning of the scarcity of the situation, Duyog Marawi has decided to send food packs enough for all families to the Barangay to be given to those who did not qualify to our vulnerability criteria because it was obvious that they also needed help.

Simultaneous to this mission, another gift giving for 300 IDP families was held at Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Lanao del Norte lead by Abdul Mahid Doro, assistant to the chief of mission. (AM Acmad / Duyog Marawi News)
