Awarding of Cash Assistance for the Christian IDPs during the Solidarity mission held at Barangay Maria Cristina, Balo-i, Lanao del Norte

ILIGAN CITY, November 18, 2017 – As the ISIS – inspired terrorists raise propaganda about “elimination of Christians” in Marawi City, Duyog Marawi (DM) with its “Solidarity Missions” along the peace corridor areas work overtime to make known the presence of peace between Muslims and Christians in Lanao through solidarity and dialogue.

Social Action Center Director of DM, Bro. Reynaldo Barnido addressed Christian IDPs in relation to the alleged propaganda during the Solidarity Mission of DM at Barangay Maria Cristina, Balo-i, Lanao del Norte on November 18, 2017.

Barnido spoke imperatively, “we want this to be a symbol of peace…we want this to be an instrument of peace and unity among Muslims and Christians”.

The mission, intended for the 78 Christians who were IDPs from Datu Saber, Marawi City, included psychosocial activities for children and adults, gift giving, and awarding of Php 5,000.00 cash assistance from the Redemptorists.

Livelihood and Education programs highlighted the excitement of these IDPs when they were informed that they will be given training and scholarship by Caritas Manila through Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

Microfinancing is also up for IDPs who wish to start  small-scale businesses as they begin their life again in Marawi City where they eagerly want to come back to despite what has befallen upon it.

For the sake of accountability with the sources, these programs are made available for those who have their Disaster Assistance and Family Access Card (DAFAC) or at least certification of their residency in Marawi City from the Barangay Chairman of their area.

DM volunteers and personnel facilitated the entire mission with Bishop Edwin de La Pena who headed the awarding of the cash grants to the IDPs. (AM Acmad / Duyog Marawi News)
